Personal Injury MVA

The Waterloo Police Department reports, on October 12, 2025, at about 10:33 pm, officers responded to the area of West Main Street and Virginia Street for a reported personal injury motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle that rolled over. It was determined that a vehicle, operated by Cody C. Helmer, age 26, from Port Byron New York, was traveling westbound on West Main Street when he moved out of the westbound lane, striking a vehicle that was parked on the north shoulder of West Main Street. The collision caused the parked vehicle to strike two other vehicles that were also parked on the north shoulder of the roadway. Helmer’s vehicle rolled over and slid down West Main Street. After investigation it was determined that Helmer was operating his motor vehicle while intoxicated. Helmer was taken into custody and charged with DWI, aggravated DWI (BAC .18% or higher), reckless driving, moved from lane unsafely, unreasonable speed/special hazards, and speed not reasonable and prudent. Helmer was released with appearance tickets and is to appear in Waterloo Town Court at a later date. The Waterloo Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Waterloo Fire Department, and North Seneca Ambulance.
